The 15th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentary and Short Films will be held in Ismailia, Egypt, from 23 to 28 June 2012. AfricAvenir is the official partner of the event.
Ismailia takes place annually to promote an intercultural dialogue for a deeper understanding of others by presenting their creative works to audiences and to encourage filmmakers of documentary and short films.
Competition categories are: Long Documentary films (more than 60 minutes); Short Documentary Films (maximum 60 minutes); Short Feature Films (maximum 60 minutes); and Animation Films (Cartoon, Puppets, Computer Graphics).
There are several non-competitive sections including Panorama (films out of competition); The Guest Festival (a similar film festival to Ismailia is invited as guest of honour); New experiements by young filmmakers; Special Screenings of films by distinguished filmmakers from around the world; and Tribute (dedicated to a film personality).
Participation is restricted to films that have been completed during the year that precedes the year in which the festival takes place. Eligible formats are 35mm, SP, and digital betacam. The deadline for entries is 1 May.
The International Jury is comprised of a president and four members (including one Egyptian member at least).
The festival organises encounters and debates between filmmakers and the audiences, journalists and professionals.
