Several of the Oscar winning and nominated films are currently screening, or soon to arrive, at Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau – South Africa’s dedicated art house multiplex circuit. The line-up includes The Artist, which won Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director, Best Costume Design and Best Original Score. It releases on 16 March but will have special pre-release screenings on 4 March.
Martin Scorsese’s Hugo also took home five Oscars, for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects.
Meryl Streep added a 3rd Oscar win to her collection for Best Actress in a Leading Role in the film Iron Lady, which also won the Oscar for Best Make-Up.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role went to Christopher Plummer in Beginners, and Best Actress in a Supporting Role went to Octavia Spencer in The Help.
The Descendants won for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Midnight In Paris took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Other wins include A Separation which won for Best Foreign Language Film, Undefeated winning Best Documentary Feature, The Muppets for Best Song, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for Best Film Editing, and Rango for Best Animated Feature Film.
Currently screening at Ster-Kinekor are Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, War Horse, The Descendants, My Week with Marilyn, The Iron Lady, and The Muppets.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close releases on 2 March, with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy releasing on 9 March. Albert Nobbs releases on 13 April.
