In celebration of the 2012 Academy Awards, Cinema Nouveau theatres across the country will be hosting special pre-release screenings of The Artist all day nationally on 26 February 2012, the same day that the Academy Awards take place in Los Angeles.

The Artist is a silent film produced in black-and-white and has received wide praise from critics across the globe. It premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival where lead actor Jean Dujardin won the Best Actor Award.

The film was also nominated for six Golden Globes, the most of any film from 2011, and won three: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Original Score, and Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. In January 2012 the film was nominated for twelve BAFTAs and ten Academy Awards.

The Artist has become Hollywoods “most loved film’ this season and is a French comedy-drama directed by Michel Hazanavicius. Starring French actor Jean Dujardin as George Valentin and Berenice Bejo as Peppy Miller, The Artist takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on a declining film star (George Valentin) and a rising dancer and actress (Peppy Miller), as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by talking pictures.

The official release date for The Artist is 5 April, more than a month after the pre-release screenings.
