Business Day reports that public broadcaster SABC and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) have received qualified audits by the Auditor- General for the 2010-11 financial year.
Both presented their annual reports to parliament on 3 October and were criticised by the Auditor-General for lack of compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The SABC could not substantiate R297m related to programming and film rights out of R312,6m allocated in its annual report
In ICASA’s case, the annual report indicates that it had incurred irregular expenditure of more than R5m due to not following proper procurement procedures.
SABC and ICASA recently applied to parliament for additional funding.
