The Republic of China (Taiwan), through its assistant representative in South Africa, Charles Ou, in collaboration with the Sandton Library on Mandela Square, Johannesburg, has launched an exhibition of photos at the Library. The event will run until 30 September 2011.

Titled Retracing Our Steps – A Photo Journey through 100 years of the ROC, the exhibition forms part of Taiwan’s centennial celebrations. Taiwan’s development over the past century is digitally chronicled so that the nation’s transformation and diversity, creativity and tolerance is aptly captured through the lenses of various photographers. The blossoming of an agrarian culture into a world leader in technology is showcased with some amazing visuals.

It is hoped that the cultural exchange that the display offers is an opportunity to learn more about Taiwan, its people, their hopes and dreams and the fruition of their hard work, in the form of their achievements.

All facets of Taiwanese life, ranging from politics, agriculture, technology and the environment will be displayed at no cost so as to offer a unique opportunity to gain better insight into the picturesque Republic of China.
