Select Ster-Kinekor theatres will be screening a series of entertaining and electrifying concerts in high definition this spring, including concerts by Faithless, Kylie Minogue, Peter Gabriel and Andre Rieu.
Faithless, recorded live in the intimate setting of The O2 Academy in Brixton, London, was filmed using the latest high-definition technology and remixed in 5:1 Dolby digital surround sound. The gig marked the end of 15 years of phenomenal worldwide success and the film offers fans a chance to say goodbye to their favourite band and to show cinemas how to party by dancing through the concert to well-known tracks including Insomnia, Salva Mea and We Come I. Faithless is showing at select Ster-Kinekor Theatres on 2, 3, 7 and 8 September 2011.
Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite Les Folies in 3D will be in selected Ster-Kinekor 3D theatres from 9 to 11 September. Fans will be escalated to heights of visual and auditory delight with Kylie’s greatest hits such as, Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Love At First Sight, Slow and the Grammy-Award winning Come Into My World.
Filmed at London’s mind blowing O2 Arena and directed by William Baker and Marcus Viner, this exciting production features Kylie and her popular music to breath taking effect for a full 120 minutes.
The legendary Peter Gabriel will be in select Ster-Kinekor Theatres on 16, 17 and 21 September 2011, returning to stage for his sold-out performance at London’s Hammersmith Apollo with the sort of innovative and visionary performance that he is renowned for. Filmed in 3D and HD in March 2011 to a backdrop of multiple video screens and supported by a 46-piece orchestra and full band, Gabriel delivers a selection of new and timeless hits including Don’t Give Up, Red Rain, In Your Eyes and Solsbury Hill.
In celebration of Pearl Jam’s 20 year anniversary, the definitive portrait of the band as told by Academy Award-winning filmmaker and music journalist, Cameron Crowe, Pearl Jam Twenty gives fans and audiences an intimate first glimpse into Pearl Jam’s journey culled from more than 1,200 hours of rarely and never-before-seen footage, over 24 hours of recent interviews with the band, as well as live footage of their concerts. After two decades, Pearl Jam remains one of the biggest acts in the world. Pearl Jam Twenty screens exclusively at select Ster-Kinekor theatres on 20 September.
Fans of classical music can enjoy the likes of Brahms, Liszt, Emmanuel Ax and Edward Gardner during exclusive screenings of the BBC Proms.
From 16 September 2011 the Brahms Proms, which is the chamber orchestra of Europe’s second pairing of Brahms masterworks, will screen at Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
Last Night of the Proms will hit local Ster-Kinekor theatres and Cinema Nouveau’s from 21 October 2011. In this moving conclusion you will find a great blend of tradition and high jinks as Gardner conducts his first Last Night of the Proms. Two special guests have been incorporated to produce the grand finale.
Finally, the “King of Waltz’ Andre Rieu performs a series of concerts in front of thousands of fans in Maastricht each year joined by his famous Johann Strauss Orchestra. This year’s highlights, at Ster-Kinekor and Cinema Nouveau Theatres from 14 October, include guest performances from The Harlem & Soweto Gospel Choirs and a performance of a beautiful waltz called “And The Waltz Must Go On’ which was composed by Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins who was also in attendance.
