Director Dean Leslie and cameraman Grant Appleton of The African Attachment have spent the last three years filming Wandering Fever, about Ryan Sandes’ build-up to the Leadville 100.
Billed as “The race across the sky’, the Leadville 100 sees over 800 competitors from all over the world compete in an out-and-back course over some of the toughest terrain the Colorado Rockies have to offer. It has one of the highest dropout rates in Ultra-Running with over half the field expected not to finish.
Sandes won the 2011 Leadville 100, setting the third fastest time in the almost 30 year history of the race and the fastest time by a non-American.
The filmmakers began shooting in the Namib Desert in 2009 and have travelled with Sandes to some of the most demanding and remote parts of the world. These include Antarctica, The Amazon Jungle, The Atacama Desert, The Namib Desert, and The Blue Mountains in Australia.
Dean Leslie reflects: “Three years ago we entered into the unknown, chasing a wild and reckless dream. We have faced many challenges along the way but are proud to have remained true, honest and independent. The film has grown into a project that is much deeper than I ever expected. It uses Ryan’s remarkable story to raise some important questions on how we live, where we have come from, and where we are going.”
Wandering Fever is set for a late 2012 release.
