British actor, comedian and writer Stephen Fry is in Cape Town to shoot the BBC One Christmas special television movie The Borrowers.
According to Channel24 Fry tweeted about Cape Town Film Studios: “Must say deeply impressed with brand new Cape Town Studios. Make Pinewood etc look v shabby.’
The actor, who plays a scientist in the movie, also tweeted this week about the beauty of Cape Town: “A bright sunny morning in Cape Town again. The Table mountain and Lion’s Head looking gorgeous and dramatic. What a city.’
Fry, who also appears in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows released in December 2011 and Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 2012, also tried his hand at Afrikaans. “Bedtime for me. “Slaap goed, lievelingen” as some say here… I think that’s “sleep well, darlings” but may be wrong: Afrikaans not easy.’
The Borrowers, written by Ben Vanstone (Merlin, EastEnders) and produced by Working Title Television, is a 90-minute action- adventure film adapted from Mary Norton’s classic children’s books about tiny beings called “Borrowers’ who live under floorboards.
The television adaptation also stars Christopher Eccleston (Dr. Who), Victoria Wood and Robbie Sheehan.
