Disagreeing with a Minister in South Africa can not only get you suspended, it can also apparently result in a police eviction. Business Live reports that on 12 April Ivor Blumenthal, CEO of the Services Sector Education Training Authority (SETA), was suspended and then evicted from his office when newly appointed chairperson of the Services SETA, Sihle Moon, arrived with a police escort.
Blumenthal had challenged Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande’s appointment of Moon, alleging that it was in breach of the Skills Development Act. The SETA’s former council, which was reconstituted on 1 April, refused to sign a new constitution allowing the Minister to appoint Moon.
