Suspended GCEO of troubled South African broadcaster SABC, Solly Mokoetle, has resigned from the position, effective 19 January 2011.
Mokoetle and the SABC have issued a brief statement to this effect. It reads: “The parties have settled all other disputes between them and wish each other well for the future.’ Mokoetle will “pursue his career elsewhere’.
TimesLive reports that Mokoetle has cited an “irretrievable breakdown’ in the relationship between himself and the SABC board, who motivated his suspension on 28 August last year. The board held that Mokoetle and board chairperson Dr Ben Ngubane had appointed Phil Molefe as head of News without consulting the board first, thus bypassing official procedures.
