In the week before Christmas (17 to 23 December) three South African films (Spud, Liefling and Stoute Boudjies) made the combined Top 10 box office list at local cinemas, competing against the likes of big Hollywood releases such as Mega Mind (including 3D), Due Date, Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader (including 3D) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The schoolboy coming of age comedy, Spud (85 prints), came in at fourth spot at had made R11.1m as at 23 December, after three weeks of release.
Liefling (59 prints), the Afrikaans musical, was in sixth spot and had made R11m after five weeks of release.
The Afrikaans comedy, Stoute Boudjies (35 prints) came in at number nine and had made R1.1m after two weeks of release.
