Italian film companies hoping that their government would renew tax benefits for the industry for a period of three years must be bitterly disappointed. According to Cineuropa, the government has extended the tax benefits for six months only.
Italian industry body ANICA has issued a press statement noting its disappointment of these latest events. ANICA believes that a three-year renewal is crucial for maintaining the current success of Italian cinema.
There have also been rumuors that a “special contribution’ of of €1would be added to movie theatre tickets to help finance the extension of the tax breaks through 2013. The government has denied the rumours.
