Mobile TV has begun test transmissions using Korea’s digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) technology from Sentech’s tower in Brixton, Johannesburg. MultiChoice recently launched a competitor standard digital video broadcasting handheld (DVB-H) system.

Mobile TV was formerly known as the Mobile TV Consortium.

Black-owned broadcaster Mobile TV, controlled by businessman Richard Moloko’s Moloko Investment Group and chaired by Mothobi Mutloatse, was given a test license in September to test the capabilities of DMB. SABC is supporting Mobile TV with test broadcasts on television via SABC1, 2 and 3 and on its radio stations 5fm and Metro FM.
