Over 600 entries have been received for this year’s PromaxBDA Africa Awards, which take place at Johannesburg’s Sandton Convention Centre on 15 October. This is the highest number of entries to date. In addition, four new categories have been added to the competition.

Commenting on the growth event director Vanessa Sheldrick says: “Entries for the Africa awards event, which is in its fifth year, are now only 200 less than for other PromaxBDA events around the world, some of which have been in existence for 14 years. Registration for the PromaxBDA Conference, which takes place on the same day, is already up on last year.”PromaxBDA Africa is now an established industry event for television and radio broadcasters as well as ad agencies in the region. Each year more and more overseas channels who broadcast in Africa enter the awards.

“Some of the most innovative and original work is coming out of Africa and is being noticed around the world. PromaxBDA’s popular World Gold session, which travels the globe, features more spots from Africa than from any other region.”

In sharp contrast to the recession, PromaxBDA Africa 2010 has experienced a growth in sponsorship. New sponsor Kidsco has come on board while existing sponsors are contributing even more. DStv and M-Net are Platinum sponsors for the first time this year. The awards event is again sponsored by public broadcaster SABC and this, according to Sheldrick, promises a lively turnout of presenters and performers.
