South Africa’s independent production sector has spent more than a year pleading with public broadcaster SABC to resolve its operational problems and its outstanding debt to them and now advertisers and media planners have got onto the bandwagon.

Business Day reports that the ad sector has appealed to SABC group CEO, Solly Mokoetle, who was appointed at the beginning of the year, to have monthly meetings with them to sort out the problems at the broadcaster’s commercial enterprises division.

Last year some R21bn in ad sales went to the SABC. Business Day is reportedly in possession of a letter from ad associations to Mokoetle which bemoans the loss of skilled staff, the inability of staff members in acting positions to make decisions, and un-transparent price-setting.
