On 31 March, the Minister of Communications General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda announced the appointment of the following members to the board of directors of state signal distributor Sentech as non-executive directors:
Quraysh Patel – Chairperson
Mesuli Dhlamini
Zanele Hlatshwayo
Thabo Leeuw
Their appointments were confirmed by the cabinet meeting that sat on 24 March, for a period of three years with effect from 1 April 2010. `
In wishing the board well with their new responsibilities, Minister Nyanda said: "I’m confident that your tenure on the board of Sentech will contribute towards the strengthening and growth of the organisation and take it to greater heights.
“Your respective backgrounds and expertise will put you in good stead to build an entity that inspires hope and confidence amongst its peers and more importantly, the staff at Sentech," said Minister Nyanda.
The Minister has also appointed Beverly Ngwenya as acting Chief Executive Officer of Sentech, effective 1 April. Ngwenya is the current Chief Operations Officer at Sentech and has held the position for the past three years. Her appointment follows the departure of Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, who has been at the helm of the organisation since 2003.
Minister Nyanda thanked Mokone-Matabane, the outgoing chairperson Collin Hickling and the board members for their contribution and wished them well with their future endeavors.
