British commercial broadcaster ITV is launching ITV1 HD, its first ever HD channel, in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. This follows nearly two years of negotiations with BSkyB and Virgin Media.

Practically all of the 64 World Cup games will be available in the UK on HD. Broadcast of the games is being divided up between ITV and the BBC, which already has an HD channel.
