A Zulu language feature film entitled Impande, will go into production early 2010 in Durban and KwaMashu. The film’s producers are Dreamlab Media’s Mandle Ndimande (Stimela 25: Live in Concert, The Search for the Missing Chord) and the newly formed Maverick Entertainment’s Jeff Rice (Florida Road, My Black Little Heart)

The story revolves around a young man (Papi) who lives with his father (Nondaba) and stepmother in KwaMashu. Papi’s father is a successful local businessman and owns a fleet of 30 taxis. Due to his father’s business success, his peers see Papi as being equally successful. Fuelled by the high expectations of his friends, Papi makes a series of decisions that result in tragedy and his own mental breakdown.

This is an original story by Mandle Ndimande, written by the late George Sithole and scripted by the renowned storyteller Gcina Mhlope.

David Hickson (Beat The Drum, Killing of Wendy) will be directing. Shaluza Max will score the pic supported by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

Roland Mqwebu (Umuzi Wezinsizwa, Shaka Zulu) & Joseph Shabalala (Ladysmith Black Mambazo) have been cast for roles.
