At a time when South African TV viewers are seriously questioning paying their licence fees in the face of public broadcaster SABC’s economic and managerial meltdown, British regulator Ofcom maintains the BBC should be more transparent.
Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards believes the exhorbitant salaries of top BBC stars should be disclosed, as the BBC is a public institution and licence fee payers expect to know where their money is going.
This follows recent media reports which exposed the enormous expenses certain senior BBC executives had generated. (Source: The Guardian)
