At a time when journalistic standards are being questioned in South African and its SADC neighbours, there is a call for an investigation into America’s state of news media.
The Washington Post reports that former and legendary American TV news anchor Dan Rather is calling on President Obama to form an independent commission to investigate. Rather points out that the number of news outlets is diminishing while those that remain are reducing staff and closing overseas bureaus. Media conglomerates, he maintains, often have interests that may not be in line with those of the public.
