The newly appointed interim board of beleaguered public broadcaster SABC has informed the parliamentary portfolio committee on communications that it has met with the labour unions which are threatening an SABC strike.

Headed by chairwoman Irene Charnley, the interim board will be in place for six months until a permanent board is appointed by government, following public nominations.

The SABC, R839m in the red and owing the independent production sector an estimated R60m, is being investigated by the auditor-general for allegations of financial mismanagement. It is expected that a report will be tabled in early September.

Still to be resolved is the broadcaster’s on-going executive management crisis and the dispute with axed former SABC CEO Dali Mpofu. (Source: Business Day)
