The independent production sector and the country’s broadcasters are gearing up for the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa’s (ICASA) public hearings on the commissioning of independently produced local programming, to be held on 23 and 24 February in Johannesburg.
ICASA published a discussion document on this topic in November 2008. It received nine written submissions in response, seven of which indicated their desire to make oral presentations. These are free-to-air channel e.tv, the Independent Producers’ Organisation (IPO), pay-TV channel M-Net, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), public broadcaster SABC, the South African Screen Federation (SASFED) and new pay-TV licensees, Telkom Media and Walking on Water.
One hour will be allowed for each presentation, with 30 minutes allocated to presentation and 30 for questions.
The hearings commence at 8.30am on Monday, 23 February at Block C Presentation Room, Pinmill Farm, 164 Katherine Street, Sandton.
