Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire continues its clean sweep of awards season just two weeks before the Oscars – it won a total of seven awards, including best film and best director, at the Orange British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAS) on 7 February at the Royal Opera House in London.
Three other Oscar favourites triumphed, namely Mickey Rourke (best actor – The Wrestler), Kate Winslet (best actress – The Reader), the late Heath Ledger (best supporting actor – The Dark Knight). Penelope Cruise was awarded best supporting actress for her performance in Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona.
