South African hit film Jerusalema is to receive an honorary award for Achievement in African Film Production at this year’s Screen Nation Film and Television Awards in London in early December.
The Screen Nation Film & TV Awards is uniquely the only annual international celebration of achievement within urban world cinema and TV in the UK. Celebrating the many achievements that have helped enrich world and UK cinema & TV with cultural diversity, the Awards combines the glamour of international movie stars alongside British talent and has been dubbed by the media as the “Black Bafta’s’.
Founder and Executive director of the awards, Charles Thompson said “The executive committee of the Screen Nation Film and TV awards selected Jerusalema for its outstanding contribution to the cannon of African cinema with its high production values and success in being recognised as the official South African entry in the category of Best Foreign Language Film for the 2009 Academy Awards.
Now in its 6th year the Screen Nation Awards presents a unique opportunity to recognise the many outstanding achievements made by Black British and international talent in the global film and television industry. 18 industry-backed Achievement Awards will be presented on the night. The cream of the black British film and TV sector will be present alongside many well known faces from the worlds of music, fashion, sport and media.
Other honorary award winners include the much loved African-American Hollywood screen star Whoopi Goldberg and the legendary writer/producer Trix Worrell the creator of the hit TV comedy series, The Desmonds. Celebrity guests include Danny Glover, Spike Lee, Linford Christie, Melvin van Peebles, Ainsley Harriot, Tricky, Baroness Amos, and Stephen Frears,
Jerusalema is currently playing in cinemas across the country. Produced by Muti Films and released by United International Pictures together with MetroFM and the Guateng Film Commission, the film has received critical acclaim and box office success. The much anticipated DVD release is being handled by NEXT video will be for sale in stores from Friday 21st of November.
