Screen Africa Online Reader’s Cover Choice results

Screen Africa is pleased to announce the five winners in the online competition for Screen Africa’s Best Front Cover Ad. Some 153 votes were logged in total on www.screenafrica.com during the last two weeks of October.

As per a lucky draw, the winning online voters are Phil Lord of Christie Digital, Lizelle Starck of Zimele, Patsy Uys of Apple, Harriet Meier of Dynamotion and David Max Brown of Maxi-D Productions. Winners get a free subscription to Screen Africa, a Screen Africa T-shirt and a Screen Africa Directory.

This was the first time in the four years of Screen Africa’s Best Front Cover Ad competition that the judging was expanded from Judges’ Choice to include Readers’ Choice as well. Eligible covers were from October 2007 to September 2008.

Readers voted Atlas Studios’ July 2008 “We’ve got it covered’ ad in first place with 33 votes, followed by Pollen’s September 2008 ad (19 votes) and the Durban Film Office’s March 2008 “Locate Yourself’ ad (18 votes).

For the Judges’ Choice, Screen Africa invited three young ad agency creatives to appraise the covers – Ryan Dupen of Draftfcb, Ronwyn Hughes of Publicis and Darren Cronje of Network BBDO.

The judges awarded Pollen’s September 2008 ad as the winner, with Realtime Resources coming in second and third with its November 2007 and May 2008 ads respectively (See November issue of Screen Africa for full report on Judges Choice).
