Michael Raeburn’s new South African film, the comedic tragedy Triomf, has secured a local theatrical release in February 2009. It will open at Cape Town’s Labia Theatre.
Thereafter Triomf will then run at Nu Metro’s Hyde Park complex in Johannesburg and Menlyn Park in Pretoria, before moving to other cities.
Based on Marlene van Niekerk’s award-winning novel of the same name, Triomf tells the simultaneously harrowing and funny story of a poor white Afrikaner family, anxiously anticipating South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994. Triomf was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival where it generated critical acclaim.
In July Triomf was judged Best South African Film at the Durban International Film Festival.
