Just when you thought it was safe to watch the news on TV it seems that product placement has infiltrated some news shows in the US. Two cups of McDonald’s iced coffees with logos blazing are placed on the news readers’ desk of the Kvvu Fox 5 TV News show.
News director Adam P Bradshaw told the Las Vegas Sun that the cups are a revenue source for the station. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the consumer advocacy group Media Access Project was quoted in the New York Times as saying that production placements moving into news “raises very troubling ethical questions’.
