The first year of broadcasting by Soweto Community TV has come to an end but it will be allowed to continue by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) until its application is finalised.

“Thus allowing our people’s favourite channel to continue bringing viewers their favourite shows,’ said Force Khashane, chairman of the Soweto TV.

Last year Soweto Community TV, South Africa’s first community television station was granted a one-year broadcasting licence which made media history. It was at the Orlando West studios where the switch-on and its first broadcast took place on 1 July.

Soweto Community TV goes live every weekday from 3pm to midnight, with repeats packaged the rest of the day.
