Details of plans for the television coverage of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup to be hosted in South Africa have been scarce, with all television facilitators hoping to have a slice of the pie.
According to Host Broadcasting Services (HBS), the international company responsible for broadcasting the World Cup since 2002, where necessary South African expertise and resources will be used as a back-up for this major international event.
(As Screen Africa was going to print, news broke that FIFA president Sepp Blatter confirmed for the first time that there is a ‘plan B’ for the host nation of the 2010 World Cup. Concerns about security problems in the country have led to reports that FIFA may look for new hosts. However, Blatter said it would take a ‘natural catastrophe’ for a new host country to be appointed.)
