For the third time since he was first suspended on 7 May, SABC Group CEO Dali Mpofu has appealed to the Johannesburg High Court to be reinstated.
He has also argued that the SABC board, responsible for his three suspensions, be removed.
Mpofu’s two previous suspensions were overturned by the Court on the basis of being irregular. He is again arguing that the latest suspension was irregular, due to the fact that his chief operating officer and chief financial officer were excluded from the vote taken by the board.
In-fighting, based on allegiances to different factions of the ANC ruling party, within the SABC top management and between it and the board have troubled the public broadcaster for several months. In his latest court appearance, Mpofu blamed board chairperson Mkonza for the suspensions and added that her deputy chair, Christine Qunta, had a personal vendetta against him.
The court hearing will be held on 23 June. (Source: Business Day)
