Andrew Human, who has been MD of South Africa’s premier brand communication awards, the Loeries, since 2005, was named Advertising Person of the Year at the Annual AdReview Awards held in Johannesburg on 24 April.
The award is given to the individual who has achieved the most, either personally or within the agency or industry environment.
Human was honoured for having remarkably improved the profile of the awards, which now encompass a year-long calendar of events including publication of Migrate, a bi-annual magazine targeted at creatives in all areas of brand communication, the Loeries Travelling Exhibition which showcases the Loeries winning work nationally, regionally and internationally, and a judges seminar where each of the international jury chairmen give a presentation to the industry.
This is a far cry from 1978, when the Loeries were initiated to act as a mechanism to support and grow television advertising only. The Loeries now include all aspects of brand communication, including architecture and design.
The 2008 Loeries mark the 30th anniversary of the awards and will be held in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal, on 26 and 27 July.
