The sequel to “Mr Bones’, South Africa’s highest ever grossing local film, will be shot in Durban commencing February, with local auditions already underway.
Commenting on the successful formula of the original film, Durban-based producer Anant Singh (“Yesterday’) says: “One of the most appealing things about “Mr Bones’ is the transposition of characters from their regular environments to other exotic locations. Following this broad theme, “Mr Bones 2′ will see the character in locations around Durban and have a strong Indian flavour. This tapestry provides a great deal of material for interesting gags that enhances the comedy of the film.’
Singh notes that the film’s star Leon Schuster has always wanted to shoot in Durban. “Leon and director Gray Hofmeyr have co-written a really hilarious script and bringing the film to Durban is part of our plan to ensure that the City is actively promoted as a shooting location. We are committed to growing the film industry in South Africa and Durban is a location that has been used only marginally.’
Locations under consideration are the Grey Street Precinct, the Indian Market, and the northern coastline. The original film was shot in Sun City.
“Mr Bones 2′ will be released nationally on Friday, 28 November 2008 by Videovision Entertainment through United International Pictures.
