According to media reports the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has been complimentary towards the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) regarding its compliance with the provisions of its public service broadcasting licence.
ICASA has reportedly stated that despite challenges, SABC1 and 2 have complied with all the regulations on infomercials, advertising and sponsorships. SABC3, however, has not complied with the requirements on advertising in certain instances.
Media reports state that the ICASA report notes the strides made by the SABC in promoting marginalised languages which has been a priority by the public broadcaster particularly in the specific genres of news, magazine programmes and to a lesser extent, drama (especially the Venda language).
