South African director Gavin Hood has been selected to direct Wolverine, a spin-off from the popular X-Men films.
Hood first gained international attention for directing the Oscar winning film Tsotsi, and is now making an even bigger name for himself by directing Hollywood hotshots like Hugh Jackman, who will be playing the title role of Wolverine, as he did in the X-Men films.
Filming is to begin in November of this year with the release of the film scheduled for 2008.
Hood is currently directing Rendition, his first Hollywood feature, which will be released on 12 October 2007.
The film is a thriller staring Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Meryl Streep. Witherspoon plays the American wife of an Egyptian-born chemical engineer who disappears on a flight from South Africa to Washington.
