State of Violence is a fiction film set in Johannesburg, South Africa, written and directed by Khalo Matabane. The producers are Jeremy Nathan and Moroba Nkawe of Dv8 Films. The film is a revenge tale that explores the state of violence in South Africa and those caught in the underworld of society, unable to penetrate the opportunities prevailing in the post democratic system.
The film has been developed with the assistance of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF, South Africa) and the Unidea UniCredit Foundation (Italy).
60% of the financing of the film has been secured and partners include the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF, South Africa), the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), SterKinekor (South Africa) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
In this new take on a tale of revenge, the story captures the fast-changing social, racial and economic forces that prevail in the present day South Africa. Bobedi, a 35 year old black businessman, goes on a journey through Johannesburg in a quest to avenge his wife’s attack.
