The nominees for the annual Independent Spirit Awards (the “Oscars’ for the international “indie’ film industry) were announced last week. Top nominees “Friends with Money’, “Little Miss Sunshine’ and “Road to Guantanama’ are currently showing at Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson-theatres nationwide.
These awards will be presented on 24 February 2007 in Los Angeles.
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (currently on circuit at Cinema Nouveau) received 5 Independent Spirit Award-nominations for:
* Best Feature
* Best Director – Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris
* Best First Screenplay – Michael Arndt
* Best Supporting Male – Alan Arkin
* Best Supporting Male – Paul Dano
FRIENDS WITH MONEY (currently on circuit at Cinema Nouveau) received 2 Independent Spirit Award-nominations for:
* Best Supporting Actress – Frances McDormand
* Best Screenplay – Nicole Holofcener
ROAD TO GUANTANAMA (currently on circuit at Cinema Nouveau) received the Independent Spirit Award-nomination for:
* Best Documentary
Other Indie Spirit-nominated films include “American Gun’ (on circuit in SA recently), “Half Nelson’, “The Dead Girl’, “For Your Consideration’ and “Quinceanera’ (all scheduled for SA release in 2007).
