Sketch comedy show launched

SABC2’s brand new Afrikaans comedy show, Kompleks, was launched at The Villamoura in Johannesburg on 2 October at a totally off the wall event which featured live skits by the cast, a Lotto-type draw and a karaoke session. Entrance to the launch was “facilitated” by a security guard (one of the cast members in character) in full army fatigues and serious attitude.

The whacky style of the launch was in keeping with the alternative sketch comedy humour style and characters in Kompleks, which chronicles the lives and times of people who live within an exclusive golf estate. The plethora of bizarre characters are all played by the same set group of actors.

Kompleks was created and written by the four main actors in the show – Mareli Minaar, Neels Clasen, Tiaan Rautenback and Hannes Brummer. It was produced by Daleen Scott and directed by Pluto Panoussis.

The 13-part half hour series starts airing on SABC2 from Saturday, 14 October at 18h30. See full story in the November issue of Screen Africa (out in the first week of November).
