South African producer Michael Gavshon, brother of Curious Pictures executive producer Harriet Gavshon and documentary filmmaker Ingrid Gavshon, last week won two Emmy Awards for his work on CBS’ long running news programme, 60 Minutes.
The first Emmy was as producer on “Aftershock”, which won “Outstanding Coverage of Breaking News Story in a News Magazine”. In the programme, presenter Bob Simon follows a team of New York paramedics who left jobs and paychecks to help Pakistani earthquake victims.
Gavshon’s second Emmy was “Outstanding Feature Story in a News Magazine” for “The Sea Gypsies”. Presenter Bob Simon visits the Moken people, nomadic Southeast Asian island dwellers who survived the devastating 2004 tsunami. Both programmes were edited by Paul Bellinger.
To date Gavshon has won six Emmys in total.
