Tom Cruise’s now infamous couch-hopping proclamations of love for Katie Holmes on the Oprah Winfrey Show have been widely credited in the overseas media as the reason Paramount dropped him and production partner Paula Wagner from their 14-year long lucrative development/production deal. Cruise’s popularity among female fans has reportedly plummeted since Cruise went publicly gaga over Holmes.
However, Cruise has bounced back according to the Los Angeles Daily News as he and Wagner had secured financing from First and Goal LLC, headed by Washington Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder, Six Flags Inc. Chairman Mark Shapiro and NVR Inc. Chairman Dwight Schar. As this $2.5m a year for two years deal pertains only to development, Cruise/Wagner Productions still has to find financing for producing their movies. The Los Angeles Times has subsequently reported that Cruise and Wagner have been turned down by three Hollywood studios thus far.
