: MTV Networks Africa, the pan-African division of global music and entertainment network, MTV, has signed a landmark programming deal with leading Ugandan entertainment channel, WBS Television. Under the terms of the deal, WBS will broadcast a daily block of programming from MTV Networks Africa’s channel, MTV base, to terrestrial viewers in Uganda.
Commencing 8 June 2006, a special MTV base branded block of programming will air across Uganda on WBS for a total of 8 hours every week. The block will reach an estimated 8 million Ugandan viewers, featuring a combination of high quality music videos from Ugandan artists such as Klear Kut and Peter Miles alongside international artists like Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Kanye West. The programming block will be rounded out with hit MTV a€˜lifestyle’ shows like celebrity prank show, a€˜Punk’d’, football reality series a€˜MTV Goal’, car makeover show, a€˜Pimp My Ride’, and celebrity homes strand, a€˜Cribs’. The block will also feature MTV base LIVE! with Nokia, MTV base’s pan-African party tour which introduced Nigerian superstar 2-FACE Idibia to Kampala in 2005.
MTV base’s quality blend of top-rated programming and cutting edge music content will complement WBS’ strong family entertainment offering and provide a compelling environment for advertisers and sponsors targeting the Ugandan young adult market. Commerical opportunities available from launch will include advertising spots and integrated sponsorship packages, including live events and off-air marketing collaborations. The block appeals particularly to lifestyle brands in the fashion, sport, soft drink, alcoholic beverages, and mobile phone categories.
