Ken Loach’s The Wind That Shakes The Barley has won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, with newcomer Andrea Arnold picking up the Jury Prize for Red Road.
Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was judged Best Director for Babel (Brad Pitt) and Spain’s Pedro Almodovar’s Volver (Penelope Cruz) won Best Screenplay. The female ensemble of Volver won the Best Actress award collectively and the Male Ensemble of Algerian director Rachid Bouchareb’s Days of Glory (Indigenes) won the Best Actor award collectively. French director Bruno Dumont’s war film Flanders won the second place Grand Prize.
