Horror on increase at Cannes

Hollywoodreporter.com reports that the horror genre is alive and kicking at the Cannes International Film Festival, with conspicuously more scare pictures on offer than in previous years.

Two films that loosely fit into this genre have even been selected for screenings: Re-Cycle from Oxide and Danny Pang is in Un Certain Regard and Bong Joon-Ho’s The Host is featuring in Directors’ Fortnight. The rest of the horror fare include such enticing titles as The Night of the Living Dorks and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.

William Friedkin, director of the 1973 horror film The Exorcist, was quoted as saying that one of the main reasons for the increased number of films these days is technology. “They’re easier to make now,” he said. “When we made The Exorcist, we had to do everything mechanically, but now it would be easy to achieve the same effects using a computer.”
