If you thought it was too soon for American audiences to stomach a movie about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, box office results say otherwise. According to eonline.com, the fact-based drama, United 93, which stars a no-name cast, grossed $11.5m in its opening weekend.

Directed by Paul Greengrass, United 93 is a real time account of the events on United Flight 93, the plane hijacked on September 11, 2001, which crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. The other three hijacked flights on that day destroyed the World Trade Centre and part of the Pentagon. It is widely held that Flight 93’s planed destination was the White House.

Prior to the film’s release, the trailer for the movie was pulled by one theatre in New York after 9/11-sensitive audiences complained and, as per one report, cried.
