New Hollywood films shooting on digital cameras

It would appear that Hollywood is fast adopting digital technology. Thomson reports that a number of leading directors and cinematographers are creating their current projects using the Grass Valley Viper Filmstream digital cinematography camera . Projects currently underway …

  • Zodiac – director David Fincher has worked with Grass Valley and its partner companies to develop and implement the next generation of digital, disk based workflows, and following many Viper-shot commercials including Nike, Xelibri, HP, Motorola, Lexus and Heineken he has just completed 117 days of principle photography on the feature thriller Zodiac

  • Miami Vice – following the massive success of Collateral director Michael Mann used Viper cameras to bring the hit television series of the eighties up to date, with Oscar winner Dion Beebe ASC CSC (Memoirs of a Geisha) as cinematographer

  • Red Riding Hood – legendary director Randal Kleiser (Grease, Blue Lagoon) has created a fantasy world for this children’s classic, entirely shot with Vipers for its heavy use of bluescreen and digital composition

  • What Love Is – David Stump ASC, cinematographer on Red Riding Hood, used four Vipers on this new romantic comedy, written and directed by Mars Callahan

  • Gray Matters – cinematographer John Bartley ASC CSC shot director Sue Kramer’s new movie with Vipers

  • The Final Days of Planet Earth – Tom Burstyn CSC a veteran Viper cinematographer, shot this Hallmark mini-series starring Gil Bellows and Daryl Hannah.

    The Viper, when used in the FilmStream mode, does not use any in-camera video processing, so it records the full gamut of the scene, delivering the maximum quality and resolution to post production.
