In separate and apparently unrelated incidents, two major gear rental facilities have reported the loss of thousands of rands’ worth of gear, stolen by clients who presented fraudulent credentials and then absconded with the goods.
Cape Town facility Cine Photo Tools reported that a man picked up a large consignment of gear under false pretenses. The items taken include:

1 x 32gb CF card
2 x Canon batteries
In Johannesburg, Puma Video reported a similar incident, with the following items now unaccounted for:

Both facilities have requested that the industry be on the alert for the listed gear. Equipment rentals in general are also advised to be vigilant and tighten security measures when renting out gear to unfamiliar clients.
