Earlier this month TV and radio personality Pearl Thusi parted ways with the South
African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) after a dispute over her contractual
obligations.

SABC chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng reportedly released Thusi from her
Metro FM contract after she resigned from Live AMP music show on
SABC1 to sign up as a presenter on Lip Sync Battle Africa; a show that
would be aired on rival channels.

The company has since reinstated the presenter in a statement saying that the
SABC operates in a highly competitive media environment and the consistency in
management and retention of its on-air talent is a key imperative to its business.

“I have instructed management to ensure consistent application of the SABC’s
directive regarding on-air talent working for direct competitors,’ said Motsoeneng.

Thusi commented, “I am happy to be back at the SABC, an organisation that has
provided me with a great foundation to allow me to progress within the
industry.’

Motsoeneng concluded that, “As a public service broadcaster, the SABC remains
committed to the fair treatment of all its on-air talent.’
