From Tuesday 4 March Hannibal Lecter is back on television screens across
South Africa as he continues to outwit the FBI and dines on a human morsel or
two.
The second season of Sony Entertainment Television’s psychological thriller-
horror television series Hannibal comprises 13 episodes. Part two explores the
repercussions of Special Agent Will Graham’s (Hugh Dancy) arrest for murder, a
crime he is convinced Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelson) committed.
Creator Bryan Fuller comments that the new episodes will “srike new territory.
We shift everything so dramatically that it keeps the audience on their toes
because they now don’t know what to expect.’
Among others, Iddie Izzard reprises his role as psychopathic killer Abel Gideon
and Gillian Anderson returns as Dr Du Maurier in multiple episodes.
Fuller says about the Hannibal Lecter character, “There is a cheery disposition to
our Hannibal. He’s not being telegraphed as a villain. If the audience didn’t know
who he was, they wouldn’t see him coming. What we have is Alfred Hitchcock’s
principle of suspense – show the audience the bomb under the table and let
them sweat when it’s going to go boom.”
Fans can watch the new season on DStv Channel 127 from 4 March at 21h50.
