Nairobi and its surrounds will have to wait another 30 days to make the switch over to digital television broadcast, pending the judgment from the Court of Appeal pertaining to an ongoing dispute regarding the transition.
The Nation Media Group, Royal Media Services and Standard Media Group delayed the process hoping to overturn a judgment which permitted the Communication Commission of Kenya to switch off analogue television broadcast.
The defence stated that the case was an attempt to gain further advertising revenue and was not in the interest of the public. It also claimed that media owners were well aware of the changeover dates.
On 12 January 2014 judges David Maranga, Roselyn Nambuye and Daniel Musinga restrained the implementation of digital migration until 14 March 2014 when they will give a judgment.
The Court of Appeal judges ruled: “We extend the orders barring CCK from switching off analogue television signals until we give a judgment of the appeal on March 14 (2014).’
