Auditions for Johannesburg Clash of the Choirs open on Saturday 15 February and Lebogang “Shugasmakx’ Mothibe is looking for talent for his 20-member choir.
Mothibe, who is the co-founder and star of iconic South African hip hop group Skwatta Kamp, will choose members for his choirs from hopefuls at The Market Laboratory in Newtown during auditions held from 08h00 to 17h00 on 15 and 16 February.
Out of the seven provinces with seven celebrity musos and choirs participating in the second season of Clash of the Choirs South Africa, Mzansi Magic’s returning reality show, one choir will walk away with the R750,000 grand prize comprising R500,000 for the winners and R250,000 to the charity of their choice.
Choirs can audition as a group, but all Choirmasters want to compile their own choir to compete in the final run for the prize money. During auditions, contestants will be expected to perform different genres of music such as pop, R&B, gospel and kwaito.
Says Shugasmakx: “I’m excited to be one of the Choirmasters and I look forward to this creative space and challenge. As a rapper among the singers, it’s going to be tough. Many will doubt, but the choir I’m going to ensemble will prove to everyone why we are part of this phenomenal show.’
Contestants have to be 18 years or older and must bring their IDs to auditions.
