The winners of the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced on 12 January with Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave taking the honours for Best Motion Picture Drama and American Hustle directed by David O. Russell winning for Best Motion Picture Musical / Comedy.
Alfonso Cuaron received the award for Best Director – Motion Picture for Gravity and Spike Jonze won Best Screenplay Motion Picture for Her.
Matthew McConaughey took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his role in Dallas Buyers Club while Leonardo DiCaprio won in the Best Actor Musical / Comedy category for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street. Both movies are based on true life stories.
For her role as Jasmine in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine Cate Blanchett took home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama and Amy Adams won Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical / Comedy for American Hustle.
U2 was honoured with Best Original Song for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom for Ordinary Love.
